Pit and finely chop the plums, then cook them in a small pan over low heat for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly mashed in the powidła style; add the cinnamon in the final minute.
Whisk the milk, cornstarch, and granulated sugar in a pot until smooth, then thicken over medium heat for 6 minutes, stirring constantly.
When the cream thickens, remove it from the heat and fold in two thirds of the roasted plum mixture; save the remaining plum for the topping.
Divide the cream among bowls and chill for 30 minutes; at serving, add the reserved plum and one spoonful of sour cream on top.
💡 Tip: Roasting the plums first into a light mash follows the powidła pattern and keeps them from releasing water into the cream. Adding the cinnamon at the end of roasting preserves its aroma.
🍽️ Serving suggestion: Serve in a cold bowl, garnish with 1 spoonful of sour cream and a small mound of roasted plum, and pair with warm naleśniki for a more classic Polish feel.
